Workshop on “Sustainable Future: Energy Transition and Climate Finance” held in Chengdu

On November 9, 2024, the Team of Energy and Climate Finance Studies, Southwestern University of Finance and Economics hosted the workshop on “Sustainable Future: Energy Transition and Climate Finance” in Chengdu. Scholars from renowned institutions including the City University of Macau, Macau University of Science and Technology, Nanjing University, Nanjing Normal University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, Southwestern University of Finance and Economics, and the Chinese Academy of Sciences Institute of Policy and Management attended the workshop.

Professor Mengmeng Guo from Nanjing Agricultural University hosted the opening ceremony and extended a warm welcome to the guests. Team leader, Professor Dayong Zhang from Southwestern University of Finance and Economics, delivered the opening speech and introduced the history, objectives, and recent developments of the Team.

The workshop featured multiple thematic discussions focusing on overarching topics of energy transition and climate finance including the distributional effects of temperature change, the impact of extreme rainfall on financial markets, determinants of China’s crude oil futures prices, the effect of air pollution on stock price efficiency, the dual governance logic of digital economy and environment-biased technological progress, the effect of climate policy sensitivity on firm’s idiosyncratic volatility, the development of the global green economy, and the declining effectiveness of air quality index in China. Participating scholars shared their research from different perspectives and engaged in in-depth discussions on the relevant issues.

The workshop serves as an important platform for scholars to share the latest research and exchange ideas from different angles in the field of energy transition and climate finance. It fosters interdisciplinary collaborations and further strengthens academic interactions. The findings of scholarly works discussed at this workshop can provide valuable academic support and theoretical guidance for policymakers and practitioners.
